Hertha Berlin vs Union Berlin predictions & how to live stream

The second week of the Bundesliga after returning presents a unique Berlin derby.

Union Berlin is experiencing its first season in the Bundesliga and is doing well. They are currently in 12th place in the table and are seven points ahead of Fortuna Düsseldorf in the relegation play-off.

The Union's pursuit of a second Bundesliga season in a row takes them across the German capital to the Olympic Stadium, where local rival Hertha Berlin is waiting for the game on Friday evening.

Hertha is only one point ahead of Union in the overall standings and will look back on the 2019/20 season if you forget them, unless they can pull themselves to the table in the remaining eight games. although the eight-point gap between them and the sixth-placed Wolfsburg seems too big to bridge them.

For the time being, Hertha must at least concentrate on being Berlin's best club in the Bundesliga. When these teams last met in November, Sebastian Polter won the game and boastful rights for Union with a penalty in the 87th minute.

Hertha Berlin: Krzysztof Piatek

In the first half of the 2018/19 season, Krzysztof Piatek was one of the hottest qualities in European football, scoring goals with Genoa for fun. The Polish striker only switched from Cracovia to Serie A this summer, but it didn't look like he was in the club too long after 19 goals in 21 games.

Of these 19 goals, 13 went to Serie A, nine of them in their first seven games; Juventus was the first Italian club to keep him from scoring on his eighth appearance, and Piatek's hot streak helped Genoa start the season decently, winning four of the eight games.

Piatek, a young Polish striker with strength on the ball and in the air, understandably began to make comparisons with compatriot and top scorer Robert Lewandowski, although the Hertha striker always played them down quickly.

"I can't stand the comparison with Lewandowski today, but I can achieve these values," he said in November 2018.

“When you play in Serie A, you have to have a clear head. Always use it and not just to score a goal. It is wrong to think: "I scored 5 goals, I am a football god".

"You are nobody anyway. The road is long."

Piatek's accomplishments brought him through Italy to AC Milan, which had connections to various clubs across Europe, and the striker had a good start in his first five games with five goals at San Siro. But thanks to the appearance of Rafael Leao and the re-signing of Zlatan Ibrahimovic in January, it seemed to Piatek to be the last nail in his Milan coffin.

A move to Berlin was the answer and Hertha became his third European club in just over 18 months. Piatek had a frustrating start in the German capital when Hertha struggled to get a form, but came off Fortuna Düsseldorf in late February. He had to watch the veteran Vedad Ibisevic score in the 3-0 win over Hoffenheim over the weekend, but Piatek's time will come.

Union Berlin: Neven Subotic

While Piatek was kept out of Hertha's team against Hoffenheim by a veteran, an experienced defender tried to keep the Union against Bayern Munich clean, if to no avail.

Random Bundesliga fans will remember Neven Subotic for his place in Borussia Dortmund's Bundesliga team under Jürgen Klopp, in which he worked with Mats Hummels. After 18 months in France with Saint-Etienne after his departure to Dortmund, Subotic returned to the Bundesliga last summer and signed with New Boys Union.

The 31-year-old has only missed six Bundesliga games this season and plays in the center-back, whether in a traditional foursome or more on the defensive. Subotic was part of the defense that kept Hertha away in the previous game and made three clearances and a duel. Union hopes for a similar performance on Friday.

Scoreline forecast: Hertha Berlin 1-1 Union Berlin

Table of the Bundesliga 2019/20 and current form:
